Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.
City officials announced they were working "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A senior official said the vandalism rendered him speechless and had to be solved promptly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
