A revitalized Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid year, managing just one match at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in specific - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought competitive win over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden championship following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court since spring of the previous year.

Victory also means he has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one various tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my children together, so to win a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his last six finals, including in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on the playing surface had prompted some to doubt if his ability to compete at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the player has made changes in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and compete positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded break points in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to push for a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a close deciding set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
